               Being a Government run Bank, you had to expect that State Bank of India and its Associates will be the last ones’ to adopt latest technologies. While most leading private banks’ such as Axis Bank and ICICI Bank already have a mobile banking app for Android OS (from a long time), SBI has only joined the league (very) recently. The State Bank Freedom app, which was only available in Java version till this time, now also has an APK, much to the delight of the green robot.
Obviously, the Bank has outsourced the work to a third party, Spanco Ltd and one has to say (it on face) that this Android app doesn’t deserve to be released yet. What is worse is that the transactions take place through SMS, costing you a good Rs.1 to Rs.2 for every request you make (update: there is now an option to use GPRS too). Yet, it’s here, in the Android market (search for State Bank Freedom in your market), and if you wish, you may download and begin the installation process (see SBI mobile banking registration).
This app works for accounts in SBI and as well as those in its 5 remaining associates, SBH, SBM, SBT, SBP and SBBJ.
